Granger to make Corentyne the “cutting edge” of the economy".

The APNU+AFC Coalition on Sunday unveiled several policies and offered assurances that it would put in place if it wins the next elections.

The party took its Unity Rally to the Corentyne Village of Whim and brought out thousands of Berbicians and other citizens.

Both David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo, the coalition’s Presidential and Prime Ministerial Candidates respectively promised residents that not only will an APNU+AFC government make the Corentyne safer with special emphasis on piracy but will make the region the “cutting edge” of the economy.

Crime has been one of the major issues affecting the Corentyne region for years.

The coalition also promised a possible 50% reduction in the Berbice Bridge toll and continued support for the sugar and rice industries along with other entrepreneurial initiatives. The coalition made it clear that the sugar industry will not be closed.

Granger paid special attention to security and said the ruling Party has taken Corentyne for granted for way too long, regarding it as a
vote farm while the region continues to suffer at the hands of criminals. He said residents have been migrating in droves to other parts of the country and across the world.

He promised to tackle the high incidents of traffic accidents, eradicate piracy and improve police response time to emergencies and everyday criminal activity.  


“I have come back to Corentyne with a sense of vision to clean up this mess that the PPP has left,” Granger said as he rolled out his own plan for economic development of the region and the country at large.

Mr. Granger reiterated his plan for improvement of education. He said the APNU+AFC plans to create value added enterprises which is expected to increase employment and generate more revenue. He said Corentyne is an unhappy place for many with the frequent incidents of suicide but noted it is an issue an APNU+AFC government will also seek to address.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nagamootoo who defended his political career as one characterized by honesty and humility told the home crowd that the coalition will formalize a code of conduct for all its ministers and public officials to ensure they serve the will of the Guyanese people with respect.

He promised too that the coalition will set a date for the holding of long overdue local government elections, increasing public servants salary by 10% and increase old age pension within the first 100 days in office.

Nagamootoo also spoke of opening lands in the region for various types of agricultural initiatives. The coalition speakers were adamant that the ruling Party has mismanaged the country and fostered racial hostility but says its national unity government will deliver a better life for all Guyanese.

STATEMENT ON THE POLITICAL ASSASSINATION OF MY COMRADE AND SCHOOL MATE.

COURTNEY NICKOSI CRUM-EWING dedicated part of his life to social justice and betterment for all our people. For his efforts we all must be grateful for the work from this Guyanese patriot. Unfortunately he had to die at the hands of political assassins in his quest for greater fairness in our society. Shame on the killers and their intellectual sponsors.

But there are two ways we can react to this cowardly act – more violence or non-violence. Violence will only serve the PPP since they are itching to call a State of Emergency as a result of their inability at winning the upcoming 2015 polls. However, the approach that will have a more impactful outcome for the majority of the people would be a re-dedication of our efforts to ensure that the majority of our people vote solidly against the oppressive forces in Freedom House. I want to strongly encourage maturity and OM SHANTI!

This means young people all across Guyana, especially in the urban areas, who had no time for the 2011 elections (even though they were eligible to vote), have to be motivated to become fully engaged in the electoral process in 2015. Politicians have to make a more determined effort at understanding the ambitions of the youths. All the hours spent in political strategy meetings and manifestos construction will come to naught unless we make the effort to properly understand the needs of the young people. They do not want political division, but more bread and jobs. They do not want violence and more lawlessness but a fair society where anyone can get ahead irrespective of who are their parents.

I first met Courtney, many moons ago at Queens College and have always found him to be a “straight up fellow” and we have been talking on and off over the years on various issues. When on December 21st, 2014 he threaten to abandon his "ANIL MUST GO" campaign, I did converse with him on how effective his struggle was since he was making a greater impact on the issue even more than the organized opposition.

In February 2015, he advised me that he was commencing a “bull horn crusade” until May 2015 to which I responded - "excellent idea". What is vitally needed is not one, but hundreds of soldiers to replace Courtney on the bull-horn crusade by going to every village across Guyana with their bull horns to tell the people at their front doors why the PPP and ANIL MUST GO!
All those who are against this unrighteous sort of politics emanating from Freedom House must rededicate themselves to taming these political savages in Freedom House.

So I ask all of Guyana to offer a prayer for the soul of my Comrade and school mate Courtney. May his soul rest in peace.

Because of his death, better must come to Guyana.

Granger promises cheaper, more efficient electricity
