guyana_electionsGECOM chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally has urged Guyanese to be patient with the slothfulness of the announcement of preliminary results from Monday's General and Regional Elections stating that they must verify the numbers with the hard copies of the Statements of Polls (SOP) from around the country.
"We at GECOM cannot sacrifice exactitude and thoroughness, we cannot compromise our efficiency on the altar of expediency, that is clear," he told reporters at a news briefing Tuesday morning.

The chairman noted that some results are being called in but they will not be used.
"For us only the SOP hard copy is what counts," Dr. Surujbally stated. Below are the preliminary figures released so far by GECOM.
Meanwhile the OAS has appealed to the political parties to be patient and not to release unofficial elections results.
Overall figures for General election:
APNU – 21,563
AFC – 3,636
PPP/C – 19562
TUF – 52
Total ballots cast – 45,332        Total valid – 44,813

GeorgetownGuyana – November 29, 2011) Professor Gordon Shirley, Chief of Mission for the Organisation of American States Electoral Observation Mission in Guyana said today that the OAS\OEM continues to monitor the results gathering process following the November 28, 2011 regional and general elections.

“We currently have observers present at the GECOM tabulation centre and in the office of the returning officer in region 4 who are following each step of the result gathering and tabulation process. These observers have been present on a 24 hour basis since the close of polls,” said Professor Shirley, “I urge all actors in the electoral process to remain patient in awaiting the official voting results and to refrain from releasing unofficial election results before the GECOM have completed their work,” he added.

“Credible and timely results are the cornerstone of any elec

  2. Guyana is considered a rogue nation under the current regime. A U.S. diplomat was murdered by the current administration. The U.S. and other Elite powers wants the current regime out of office because they are mafia run drug dealing organization, and they are not playing by the rules set forth by the Powers that be. Please remain peaceful and don't get overly emotional thus avoiding a blood bath. Don't fall into the trap already set forth for you to fall into. This is probably to much for you to comprehend anyway.

  3. I personally don't think we'll suffer if A.P.N.U. wins, I'm 19 and the P.P.P./C has been in presidency for my entire life. I want to see the difference if a another party rule. I don't believe it has anything to do with race because I don't mind having the P.P.P./C, A.P.N.U., A.F.C., as the ruling party AS LONG AS they are doing the right things. If people could just could look past their ethnicity and see people that are homeless, youths that are jobless(including unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled), people that seem to be lawless, Unsolved Mysteries. Not saying that the PPP/C didn't perform, it that I would like to compare by means of having another party rule.

  4. this country needs a leader who has the fear of God with him. People need to vote for issues not race

  5. Guyanese need to be awaken to the fact that they are led by the wrong group, who seeks to separate, divide, corrupt and disable them. It's time to be truthful and embrace each other for a better tomorrow. Race is just an illusion therefore, do not continue to oppress the less fortunate. Move out PPP, go ... far away.

  7. It's true, I would like to see a change in the approach of dealing with the crucial issues in this society especially the less fortunate. I don't want to be happy while my brother is struggling to make ends meet and the demands of this society financially is almost a burden.

  8. It seems like everyone wants the best for this country, then I ask why so much confusion? Why can't we just get along after we are all in this together? Whatever you do I feel the effects of it and inversely whatever I do you feel the effect of it, both negative and positive. Why money and power determines the level of resistance of man to do bad? People please be conscious, open minded, realistic about what needs to be done. Firstly, we need to see us as one and should be allowed to equal opportunity and rights. Value and respect one another as you would yourself.

  10. we are waiting patiently, but don't expect us to wait so long, in last night previous announcement the election chairman said that the result will be completedat least by 2o.00hrs 2011-11-29 and we are holding him to that statement to wich he is accountable to this Nation and he must stop the procrastining.

  11. It is time that Geocom get their act together and declear the presidency of this country in a fair and honest manner in order to avoid any confusion. It is evident that persons are very uneasy and it is clear that we are sitting on a time bomb waiting to explore and if that do happen the blame would be laid squarly at the feet of Sureshbally and Geocom. Stop the procrasting now.

  12. Come on Guyana, do the GRASPMATYX and get it over with! Unfortunately, the PPP/C Party including OAS/OEM did not learn Graspmatyx, the fast fun and easy way of learning math for the 21st Century. If they did, this would have been announced on 28 November. Nevertheless, let's do the Graspmatyx together. It is mentioned APNU has 21,563 counted votes, PPP/C has 19,562 counted votes, the AFU has 3,636 counted votes and TUF has 52 counted votes. Total valid- 44,813. Total Ballots cast - 45,332. The uncounted votes 519. If all 519 uncounted votes is the Civic votes, that goes to PPP, which is not likely, their total = 20,081. Do the Graspmatyx people, where is Minister Baskh?
