Suriname expands its air services.

 Surinam Airways (SLM) and the government of Suriname is currently discussing a US$200 million modernization and expansion of the state-owned carrier.

In addition Suriname's main airport--Paramaribo’s Johan Pengel Airport is continuing its modernization and will be spending another $70 million modernization  in its drive to make the airport a regional hub.

Last year,Surinam Airways and Caricom Airways last year signed an agreement to allow Caricom Airways  to operate as a feeder airline for SLM.

Caricom Airways CEO Stephen  Chin-a-Kwie said, “We are two Surinamese airlines, now we found reasons and ways to team up; one mission within one vision and that is to connect the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).”
